I've been interested in photography since I was a child using my 110 film camera. My uncle was a part-time wedding photographer, and as a child and teenager I was always fascinated by his gear and technique when he took the photos for cousins weddings and such. When I had the opportunity to take a photography class in college I was very excited to do so, getting my first quality 35mm camera to use for the class - a Pentax K1000.
I continued being an amateur shutterbug for years, always wanting to learn more about photography - especially with the advancements in digital photography. Between work and family, I didn't do as much with photography as I might have wished, but the photo-bug was still inside me. I upgraded my camera when a work associate was selling their Nikon SLR camera and I used it for a several years until it took an unfortunate tumble and broke.
I have been aprofessional web designer since 1997, and when several clients needed product shots or other photos for their business to put on their websites, I purchased one of the first major digital cameras - a Sony Digital Mavica that recorded the photos on a 3.5-inch floppy disc. (Can you imagine?) I went through 15-20 discs in a photo shoot (or more).
When my family saw how much I enjoyed taking photos with the Mavica, they got me a Nikon Coolpix point and shoot camera for Christmas one year. Then I was taking pictures all the time. Photography started becoming more than a hobby for me.
A few years ago I purchased my first digital SLR camera (a professional-quality Canon EOS 60D) and began taking online classes through the New York Institute of Photography. Since then my photography skills have grown by leaps and bounds.
I've served as the official photographer for a local drama group, and one of my photos from their spring 2015 play was published in Michigan History Magazine. I also served as one of the event photographers for a benefit concert for Exodus Road, a counter-trafficking organization.
At this point, I enjoy all types of photography. I love nature photography including landscapes and wildlife as well as macro photography of flowers and insects since it provides the opportunity to display the wonder of God's creation. I particularly enjoy event photography and concert photography - getting that perfectly timed shot of the performer on stage - that expression or pose or mid-air leap. Getting great shots of pets and animals also inspires me. I like sports and action photography as well as real estate and product photography. Portrait photography is also fun, helping to catch that awesome expression of the personality of each person, couple, family or group. I enjoy the challenge and variety that photography provides.
Inspired Expressions Photography exists to express the beauty of individuals, families, groups, and the world the Lord has given us or inspired in us through photographic imagery.
